What measures can be put in place to make delegates feel safe at events?

Contactless – Use a contactless method for exchanging or verifying items like tickets or identification, and for accepting payments at the event.

Hand washing and hand sanitizer stations – Provide access to hand-washing stations with soap and water or hand sanitiser containing at least 60% alcohol if the former is unavailable. Require attendees to use hand sanitiser or wash hands upon entry and exit of your venue, exit of bathrooms, after disposing of waste, and after consuming food. You should also include instructions on hand washing within these areas.

Face masks – Ask all attendees to wear face masks. Make sure to check the local authorities for the rules on this and of those who are exempt.

Social distancing – Per physical distancing guidelines, event-goers should stay at least two metres (or adjusting per up-to-date guidance from local authorities and public health officials) from one another, even if they are wearing face coverings.

Signs and Messages – Post signs in highly visible locations (for example, at entrances, in restrooms) that promote everyday protective measures and describe how to stop the spread of germs by properly wearing a mask, physical distancing, and washing hands. Utilise floor stickers to mark out safe distances.

Communication – communicate the measures you are putting in place to all your delegates in the lead up to the event. Let delegates know what cleaning procedures the venue has in place.
