Who are Event Management Services?

Event Management Services (EMS) embodies a wealth of international experience in the business conference industry. Founded and led by seasoned conference professionals, Carol Baines and Suzy Sclater, EMS enjoys a reputation for high quality events executed flawlessly.

Our team of professionals are far more than just “good organisers”. We think strategically with the client organisation to:

  • Design a conference agenda that translates into a “must attend” for the target audience
  • Create a marketing campaign to drive registrations to match the target profile
  • Develop sponsorship packages to fund the direct costs of the conference
  • Build an enduring relationship with delegates before, during and after the event

Our in-house team will manage the whole event for you, from securing the speakers and the venue; to designing a new look for your marketing communications, to creating some fun catering and entertainment options onsite. You can be confident that your event will be run to schedule, according to budget and without a hitch.

Our Founders

Carol Baines

Carol Baines is a seasoned international marketing and events management professional with over 20 years’ experience. Carol specialises in developing events that feature innovative formats – distinguishing the delegate experience from “the norm” – and delivering premium quality, profitable conferences, exhibits and training courses.

Carol’s career started at the Royal Society of Chemistry in London running academic conferences. She went on to gain a solid grounding in the commercial conferences business at IBC in London, now part of Informa – the largest conference company in the world – where she produced a portfolio of annual IT conferences. Carol then moved to BIS Strategic Decisions, an international IT analyst advisory firm – later to become Forrester Research – where she spent 8 years, first in Europe and later in North America, establishing an $8m IT conference business catering to over 5,000 attendees annually.

Carol founded EMS, with Suzy Sclater, in 2004 with the goal of packaging the international events business experience gained into a service offering for US based organisations looking to grow their conferences internationally. EMS’s first two clients fitted the profile perfectly and EMS went on to attract more clients looking for new revenue sources and audiences for their events in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pac. EMS added the management of training programmes to their portfolio, added exhibits to conference products and the business grew. Still retaining it’s small company service levels and values, EMS is now truly global with events organised in more than 20 countries, for many professional sectors, with more than 22,000 attendees managed annually.

With the EMS office being located in Bath, in addition to running EMS, Carol is also a Board Member at Bath Festivals, the organisation behind The Independent Bath Literature Festival, the International Bath Music Festival and The Telegraph Children’s Bath Literature Festival.

Suzy Sclater

Suzy Sclater is a highly experienced event marketing and project management professional having spent more than 17 years in commercial events management. Suzy specialises in marketing, creating and growing the event brand, establishing attendee communities and maximising both audience numbers and event revenue.

After gaining valuable experience on the venue side of the industry, Suzy started her commercial conference career at BIS Strategic Decisions, an IT advisory firm, now part of Forrester Research.. Spending 10 years at the organisation, through two acquisitions and business transformations, she gained experience in both the UK and in North America in logistics, marketing and project management roles within a rapidly expanding conference division. Suzy’s role as Events Marketing Director led her to develop her international marketing expertise, creating a tool kit for entering new geographic markets.

Before co-founding EMS with Carol Baines in 2004, Suzy acted as an independent conference organizer, producing industry conferences for specific IT vertical markets.  Her projects ranged from conference planning and budgeting, speaker recruitment, marketing strategy and execution, to onsite event coordination and overall project management  – in short, business conferences from concept to completion.

As the business at EMS has grown and our client portfolio has expanded, Suzy has focused on effective marketing strategies for conference and training courses – leveraging all the new opportunities that digital marketing has brought to the industry.
